  8. Memory Requirements
  9.  
  10. The NetWare/86 2.0 Installation Manual states on page 4-60 the
  11. following:
  12.  
  13. "A personal computer to be used as a non-dedicated file server
  14. MUST have 640K of memory.  Of this amount, 384 will be used
  15. for the NetWare /86 operating system."
  16.  
  17. It should be noted that this is only the bare minimum that the
  18. operating system will run under.  Anything less than this will cause
  19. the error message "NOT ENOUGH MEMORY TO SUPPORT OS."  384K
  20. of RAM could support a single 10 meg drive if all system parameters
  21. were set to the absolute minimums.

  23. When the booting up your OS with any configuration and memory
  24. errors occur, it may be necessary to increase the memory parameter. 
  25. This should be done in increments of 16K.
  26.  
  27. All condititons can effect memory and it may be necessary to make
  28. other adjustments.  The following guidelines will help in conserving
  29. precious memory:

  31. 1.Each file handle configured will use 40 bytes. Only configure for
  32. handles that will be used.
  33.  
  34. 2.Do not make directory sizes any larger than needed. Directory
  35. entries will use memory for hashing and caching even though
  36. they are not being used. Directory sizes can be increase if
  37. needed later.

  39. 3.If you wish to use large drives on your system, it is advisable
  40. to run a dedicated server.

  42. 4.Caching may be disabled if constraints do not require it.  There
  43. will be some decrease in performance.
